Residential Homestead Exemption: How to File Electronically

Use the Property Search option to locate your property. Search by name, address, or account number.

 

Click the HS Exemption icon to access the online Homestead application. 




Please review Things To Know Before Filing A Homestead Exemption as it contains pertinent information needed prior to filing.
  
Once the information has been reviewed, click on the Apply Online for your Homestead Exemption to proceed to the application.



At the top of the form, you will need to check the Yes or No box indicating if you own the property. Next, indicate the year for which you are seeking the exemption. 



Section 1: Exemption(s) Requested

You will need to identify the exemptions for which you are applying and indicate whether you are transferring a tax limitation from a previous property.






Section 2
:
Property Owner/Applicant

This section requires the following information: owner names, date of birth, driver’s license or personal ID certificate, phone number, email address, mailing address, and percentage of ownership.




Section 3: Property Information

Provide the date you purchased the property and the date you began occupying the property. If you are identified on the deed, you will need to provide the deed filing number. Answer Yes or No as to whether the property is an heir property. If the property is an heir property, please see the Important Information page included with the application. If the residence is a manufactured home, a space is provided to indicate the make, model, and identification number of the mobile home. Answer Yes or No as to whether your property is income producing or not. Residential properties with more than one acre may apply for up to twenty acres and should be indicated here.




Step 4: Application Documents

Attach a copy of your Texas driver’s license or state-issued personal identification certificate. The address listed must correspond to the address of the property for which an exemption is claimed. In certain cases, you are exempt from these requirements. Please indicate if you are exempt by selecting the applicable box. 

Applicants applying for the 100% Disabled Veteran Exemption must provide current documentation from the Department of Veterans Affairs indicating the veteran received 100% disability compensation due to service-connected disability. For a Disabled Person Exemption attach supporting documentation relating to the disability. If the applicant is requesting the Age 65 or Older or Disabled Person and is not specifically identified on the deed or other applicable document, they must provide an affidavit establishing the applicant's ownership interest in the homestead (See Form 50-114-A).  If you are transferring a tax limitation from a previous address please attach the Tax Ceiling Transfer Certificate with the appropriate exemption type.


Manufactured home owners are required to attach a copy of the statement of ownership and location for the manufactured home issued by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs showing the applicant is the owner of the manufactured home.


Step 5: Additional Information

Provide any additional information if needed.




Step 6: Affirmation and Signature

Property owner would type in their name and list their title under the Title/Authorization section. 



By signing this document, you state that the facts in this application are true and correct and that you do not claim a residence homestead exemption on another residence. Once you click the Submit Application.

 

Homestead exemptions filed online will be submitted electronically.

All paper applications may be submitted through this form Online Exemption Information or mailed to the Williamson Central Appraisal District or hand delivered to the office.


Please note there is no fee to file for exemption, and no need to reapply annually.
